Why Mass Communications ?
I chose Mass Communications as my major before enrolling at McNeese State University. Since a child, I have composed my life with sports. Either I was throwing the game winning touchdown or talking about how great it felt to throw the game winning touchdown. Even though I was a pretty good athlete in high school, I never focused on going to the NFL, but rather, I was also a pretty good student and viewed myself as a good product for a collegiate program. After evaluating the NFL for just about every stand point, I realized that I could stay close to the game and receive NFL pay without ever touching the field. I seen sports analysts such as Scott Van Pelt and Stuart Scott, enjoying their jobs, making a lot of money, and interacting with professional athletes on a daily and I knew I had to have that experience. I began taking Mass Communications courses and I realized that I was being equipped with skills that would not only help me with my journey to fortune and fame, but also, I was learning how to network and work behind the scenes. Being realistic, I realized that I would have to climb the corporate ladder to reach my goals. That would require me to work behind the scenes before I ever got a chance to give my analysis on any team’s final score. With the knowledge that I have been equipped with through our Mass Communications department, after graduation, I know I will be truly ready to make my journey towards my ultimate goal and share my insight with the sports world.
